Tips To Pick A Cavachon Puppy For Sale

By James Perry

Deciding to adopt a dog may seem like a very simple matter, however, there is quite a lot that should go into that decision. Things like how much a pet costs to feed, the amount of time and personal attention they require, the space they need, their health and grooming concerns, and whether or not they can adapt to one's lifestyle. Before buying a Cavachon puppy for sale, it is a good idea to learn about the breed and know what to expect.

First thing one should be aware of is that this is not a purebred breed. It results from the mixing of full blooded Bichon Frise and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, or two first generation Cavachons. As such, although completely adorable and beautiful, they have not been officially recognized by the AKC because they are considered to be hybrids, or designer dogs.

Because they are a hybrid, the traits received from each parent will fluctuate somewhat from one pup to another, though basic characteristics are fairly standard. Since they are difficult to create, their availability is limited, which tends to drive the price of a quality dog to a premium. Most breeders usually have a waiting list because they can not match the demand.

It is of utmost importance that interested individuals realize that all breeders are definitely not equal. The lack of official acceptance by top kennel clubs means that no authoritative listing of the best suppliers with great reputations and responsible practices. To find a facility, the most reliable method is to talk with other breed owners to find out who they trust and recommend.

Prior to entering a contract, it is strongly recommend that a physical visit be paid to each considered facility to personally view the conditions both young and adult animals are subjected to. If this is not an option, perhaps it would be possible to arrange a live video tour. It is important to see how the dogs are housed, exercised, fed, and socialized, as these factors can affect their health and development.

New owners should know what to expect once they get their dog home. For example, as a toy breed they are extremely small when young so one needs to be alert so as not to step on a very active but tiny pup. For about six months their fur will grow quite quickly and there will be an excessive amount of shedding when it their low shed adult coat replaces it. After this point they meet hypoallergenic standards and may be well suited for someone with allergies.

Puppies will chew everything and often, so it is recommended that one have plenty of acceptable options available to them such as rubber bones or deer antlers. They require lots of consistent structure when young to formulate good habits. The best results come when obedience training is begun as early as possible with firm reinforcement and frequent rewards.

Weighing no more than 18lbs and standing about 13" high, Cavachons are great for practically any sized living area. They need much love, affection and companionship, and are great with the elderly, other pets, and children, alike. Understanding what the breed is like and knowing reasonable expectations, makes for a smoother transition.
