Understanding Past Life Regression Therapy

By Jose Young

The question as to whether we are much more than just our bodies is one that has probably existed since the beginning of time. In many religious teachings, the soul is said to be the most important aspect of existence. Past life regression therapy is a branch of hypnotherapy that is based on the belief that life is a cycle through which the soul travels. This means that a single soul has been through multiple lifetimes in the past.

Therapists who specialize in this area say that this therapy has numerous benefits that are mainly realized by unlocking the memories that relate to our previous life times. One of the area in which it is being widely applied is the treatment of various physical and mental illnesses. It is also frequently used in resolving social challenges such as those that relate to interpersonal relationships and the attainment of personal spiritual growth.

The reason as to why this technique is considered a form of hypnotherapy is because in both cases the client has to enter a state of trance. In this state, the therapist guides them in a manner that helps the client revisit their past by sensing feeling and seeing events. A related technique known as past life reading is slightly different as it is more passive than it is an active process.

The experiences differ between different people. Whereas the memories may come as vivid events for some people, others only see vague flashes. They may also come in form of auditory stimuli (such as a blast, a crying baby, music and so on), gustatory (bitter or sweet taste) or some form of familiar smell such as that of something burning or a nice aroma. In short, it is a full-sensory experience.

The events that have happened in previous lifetimes have the potential to affect the lives we are leading today. Since this tends to happen at the subconscious level, we are unlikely to be aware or the influences. Depending on the events in question, the influences may be negative or positive. Those that have been found to play a major role include emotional debts, sudden deaths, broken vows, achievements and so on.

The memories so unlocked tend to affect our relationships, behaviors, achievements and even our physical and mental health in the present life. Positive patterns are important as they help us rediscover the talents of our previous lifetimes and develop them to our benefit. They also bestow the wisdom that we once heard. Most importantly they help us understand our life purpose better. Negative patterns are associated with maladaptive behavior.

The therapist will advise that you choose one objective. This is because there are many memories that may come flooding if one keeps the session open. Putting all these memories in context presents a major challenge. The specific objective may be related to questions related to issues such as interpersonal relationships, achievements, illnesses, talents and so on.

Regression therapy achieves its healing effect on the soul by sorting out problems in past life times. The negative memories in the subconscious mind are usually dropped and the positive ones are reinforced. The use of this technique has continued to rise in popularity over the last few decades.
