By Kevin Jones

Students highly depend on the help of their tutors. Thus, teacher training that is focused at enhancing the performance of a teacher in addition to improving the way instructions are given out to students is referred to as job embedded professional development. This occurs during a working day while at the workplace that is in school. It usually involves the connection of teachers with their students in the classroom. The main intent behind such a program is to enhance student learning in addition to meeting all the academic needs of a student.

In order for students to effectively learn, they need the help of their teachers to help them through this journey; thus, the reason why such a program is being reinforced in the school system to begin with. The program is set with the aim of ensuring that the teachers gain better instructional skills in order to improve learning for students.

The JEPD involves certain processes one of them being action research. Here, a random selection of teaching aspects is done by the tutors themselves and then evaluations are done. The teachers collect all essential data and then a record of this is done. From the data or information gathered, the tutors may be able to draw important conclusions so as to affect certain teaching techniques on learning. Generally, action research is set out to help enhance teaching skills; thus, enhance learning.

The second format entails case discussions. These are aimed at helping the teachers critically analyze their methods of teaching. Coaching is yet another format. Here, constant conversations, observations as well as demonstrations are kept between an instructional coach and the tutors. This process mainly focuses on aspects of a more technical nature helping teachers implement various new teaching methods.

A critical friendly group discussion is also formulated and it is aimed at analyzing each teacher. The discussions may touch on various issues that are of great importance in the teaching profession and may include obstacles that present when a teacher is trying to teach a certain concept or even new strategies that can be employed.

The assessment part forms the next bit of the process. There are a series of assessment tests that the teachers are put under to help wager where they are in terms of performance. The results obtained from such studies are usually put under consideration as they help teachers formulate or come up with new ways in which to effectively teach content to students. In order to gain a better understanding of the students, they must always check their progress and come up with solutions to solve some of the problems facing the students.

The next phase involves the teachers coming up with their growth plans. The plans should be of a professional nature and they are aimed at tracking the performance of teachers. Next is to form a study lesson. Here, a lesson is prepared by teachers alternating in order to demonstrate how teaching should be done and the effect this has on learning.

In order for certain skills to improve, teachers need to undergo such a process. This way, they will improve the way they issue out instructions and in turn improve learning for their students.
